Lithology and Thickness
In Alai-Fergana basin, it is greenish-grey mudstones with grey and white siltstones, sandstones, marls and limestones, red mudstone intervals at the top, rich in oysters and other bivalves, 5-150 m.
Clays. Turkestan layers (15-100 m) are mainly composed of clays. The clays are gray and greenish-gray, predominantly carbonate. Among them, layers of marls, limestones, siltstones, and sandstones are occasionally noted. The number of layers and their thickness increase from the central and southwestern parts of Southwest Tajikistan to its periphery. The thickness of the described layers is 15-100 m.

Oysters and Bivalves. In the Turkestan layers, such forms as Fatina esterhazyi Pav., F. bohmi Vial., Liostrea kokanensis Sok., Chlamys vialovi Korob., Nuculana galeottiana Nyst, Crassatella desheysiana Nyst, Cultellus grignonensiformis Desh., Cardium porulosum Sol., Tellina doracialis Lam., Lucina consobrina Desh., Thracia bellardii Pict., Panope inteimedia Sow. are present.
